Acorn’s new biodegradable tree protection range includes the only fully biodegradable tree shelters, shrub shelters and mesh treeguards available in the UK – arguably the most environmentally friendly shelters available to date. Biodegradable tree guards and tree shelters appeal to customers for whom the environment is of paramount importance, and the modest price premium can be out-weighed by reduced tube removal and disposal costs.

The biodegradable Bio-shelter has been developed in conjunction with a specialist plastics firm and has undergone intensive testing to ensure that browsing protection is not compromised and that the shelters will be compliant with the EC 200271 and forthcoming BS8472 biodegradability standards.

The combination of natural UV light and a specially formulated additive make the plastic accessible to microbes found in the natural environment and will enable them to break down the shelter into harmless CO², water and biomass.

As well as being biodegradable the Bio-shelter is also made from almost 100% recycled plastics, further enhancing its green credentials.
